Personally I prefer MKV over AVI (MPG is also preferred over AVI because I can use Quicktime Player on the Mac to trim off the opening and closing of your laserdiscs without quality loss)- the ISO and MKV provide me with a master backup, and the MKV allows me to make a higher quality MP4 version with better quality settings in Handbrake than the MP4s you upload- I can then use the MP4 for general use in iTunes where I can use other software to add a full range of metadata.
